Risk - Playing it Safe

So, now i am learning about this whole new world of leather sex. Domina’s teachings are based off the”old guard” ways. The history and the importance of where leather all started. That’s a whole other topic i could get into but basically the point of me saying this is, BDSM comes from leather subculture. Or BDSM IS leather subculture. Read about it. You’ll have your mind blown.

i’ve always been a risk player when it comes to kink. i love rope bondage and wax play. i am very curious about knives and learning the ins and outs of knife play. But what is risk play exactly? Leather subculture derives from the men (and yes women too) but mostly men, in ww2 who craved the bonds, the strict protocols, and the intense structure within their relationships with one another. Gay men specifically. The shit they were doing was dangerous and risky, so how did they stay safe while doing so?

How do people today who practice BDSM, risk play, edge play, giving and receiving pain (sadomasocohism) and stay safe about it?

You just finished a Shibari session with your partner and your fingers are tingly. Slowly over time you struggle to move your fingers. Your hand is cold and discoloured. Your wrist has perfect little rope indentation shaped bruises. The problem is you can’t move your hand and now you have to go see a doctor. How are you going to explain to a doctor who has zero information about kink to not only support you but also provide you with judgement free care.

i  considered this before in the past when playing with wax too. Of course i take all the safety protocols but what if i do burn myself or my partner? One time i almost set her table on fire. She was blindfolded and completely unaware. i had to act quick to put out the flame without breaking the scene. Back then though i did not know how to treat a burn without a swift Google search. Even then, we were literally playing with fire and you should probably know how to treat a burn if you’re doing that.

There is so much potential for injury in risk play and it’s important to know basic first aide and the difference between within for it to work itself out and “oh shit i really need to get medical attention.”

If you’re playing with wax and you know how to do it properly, you know that you have to use body safe wax. You know that you have to prepare the skin and ensure you have water or a fire extinguisher near by. Do you know that your partners skin is going to have little reddened marks all over it after you remove the wax? Do you know the difference between a reddened area and a burn that needs treatment? What happens if you drop the candle by accident and really burn their skin and do you have the necessary supplies near by to tend to that quickly and efficiently.

i am going to give you a thorough run down on wax play and how to play safely. i am going to teach you what the difference between a little redness from a drop of wax vs treating a burn at home or seeking further medical care. You’re also going to have to get used to being honest with your healthcare professional because like i mentioned before, we have heard it all and if we haven’t you are just teaching us something new.

Now i kind of want to get out of candles and play around with them again.
